The original text uses striking imagery from Iceland’s contrasting landscape, ash-covered expanses set against lush green grass. The Norwegian adaptation uses the sea as a similarly contradictory experience of nature. The vast salty blue was traditionally seen as a source of food, a main thoroughfare, and a place filled with adventure. At the same time, however, storms and monster waves represented a threat to the people who depended on it for their livelihood.
