The Norwegian text is historically set in the Privateer period (1807-1814) when Denmark-Norway was at war with Great Britain. Along the Skagerrak coast, letters of marque were issued, giving Norwegians the right to capture prizes, i.e., British ships. The reward was great, but they risked life and liberty in this struggle where thousands were killed or ended up in British prisons. At home, the women waited, always with their eyes turned towards the beacons. Would they light up?
